Loan 256 to ‘Responsables De Jalpa Group’ in Mexico

This is the 256th loan on Kiva from the Human Folio Foundation. We have so far made loans to the sum $6500 to various entrepreneurs across the world. Thank you.

Responsables De Jalpa Group

This group is called “Responsables de Jalpa” (Responsible Ones of Jalpa) because all of the members are very reliable. The group is located in Mexico. This community is known for its handicrafts. The group is comprised of 11 members.

Leonor Cruz Santiago is a member of the group. She is from San Juan Jalpa, and she is 50 years old. She went to school until the third year of high school. She has a total of five children; three of them are dependent upon her. She has lived in this community for 50 years. She works with livestock (raises and sells sheep). She started this activity ten years ago.

The loan she is requesting is to buy feed to fatten the sheep. Her customers say that the sheep that Leoner sells are well taken care of and well fed. This inspires confidence in buying one of her sheep because the customers are sure they are getting a quality product.

Leonor is pleased to request this loan. Little by little she wants to buy more sheep. Upon doing so she will have her own well established farm.

New Loan to “God Will Provide Group” in Liberia

This is the 235th loan from HFF. It will be one of the first loans to entrepreneurs in Liberia.

Korto Flomo, who is holding the sign, is the leader of this group of five borrowers called God Will Provide. She is 28 years old, married, and has three children whose ages are between two weeks and ten years. She was only able to attend school through tenth grade due to a lack of financial support.

For three years, she has been selling cold water and soft drinks in “Red Light Market” on the outskirts of Monrovia, Liberia. She plans to use her 12,000 Liberian Dollar portion of this 60,000 Liberian Dollar group loan to buy more crates of soft drinks and sacks of water.

She describes herself as a determined woman whose dream is to improve her business and to continue to pursue her education so that they can have a better future.

Aiming for 10,000

We have been witnessing the magic of micro lending. As of now we are 50 bucks short of the 6,000 mark. We hope to hit 10,000 in early 2011.

The Start of a Journey

This is a humble beginning to a long journey. I start this journey alone but I know that I will  meet minds greater than myself bent on making the earth a better place.
